Texas Lodging for Bird Watching Vacations
(Cabins, Cottages and Lodges)
 |
Baron's Creek
Cottage
was originally built circa 1933 by Lizzie Simon, a local widow. There
is a large wooden deck in the back, as well as a double hammock nestled
in the trees outside. The large back yard has slopes full of grass and
trees, as well as a spring-fed creek that runs year-round. It is quiet,
private, peaceful, and one of the most beautiful locations in all of
Fredericksburg! Close to Fredericksburg are the Enchanted Rock State
Natural Area and the Lyndon B. Johnson State and National Parks, all
great places for bird watching, hiking and rock climbing.

John's cabin
was built in 1978 by John Penick from logs and stone on the
property just 10 minutes from Fredericksburg on 120 acres. There is a
lovely fishing pond directly in front of the cabin. Fish are
abundant – brim and catfish, numerous frogs, and of course
turtles. There is a walking bridge across the pond for
walking,
bird watching, relaxing or a nap in the sun. A hike on the
many
trails could yield an arrowhead or two if you have sharp eyes. There is
a fireplace to add to the ambience or you can sit on the back porch
swing. In the evening you will be serenaded by frogs and
beautiful sounds of the local whip-poor-wills.

Antoinette's
Cottage
is a charming small inn in the heart of beautiful downtown
Gruene. The oldest house in Gruene has four rooms of
distinction,
beautiful gardens and a lovely porch, claw foot tubs, and ceiling
fans. The earliest part of the house pre-dates the Civil War
(1840-50), with additions in 1872, and 1880. Many period
antiques
and professional decorations, with modern amenities, will makes this a
memorable stay. Each room, containing a queen bed, is named
after
a Gruene family member, and decorated appropriate to their
personalities. We are on the national flyway for
all birds
migrating to Central and South America, lots of hummingbirds,
mockingbirds and red winged black birds.

It is a perfect escape from the hustle of the work day. This scenic

compatible habitat for both humans and wildlife. Observing the
Hummingbird, Blue Heron, Kingfisher, Egret and wild ducks in the
two-acre lake that fronts each cabin will allow an immersion in a

darkness, and the moon crests around a sea of stars. The opportunity to
